Tron carries more OFAC-sanctioned addresses than Ethereum

Counted against our own copy of the OFAC SDN list, refreshed 9 September 2026: 1,979 active cryptocurrency addresses, across 19 chains, belonging to 99 designated entities, under 32 sanctions programmes.

The distribution is the interesting part, and it is not the one most tooling is built around.

Tron carries 404 designated addresses to Ethereum's 233 — 73% more (171 additional addresses), on a chain that a good deal of screening tooling still treats as a secondary integration.

The number that should decide your coverage

If you screen Bitcoin and Ethereum, you cover 1,293 of 1,979 addresses (65.3%).

You miss 686 (34.7%). Tron alone is 404 of that gap.

That is not an argument that Tron matters more than Bitcoin — Bitcoin is still over half the list at 1,060 (53.6%). It is an argument that the second chain you add should probably not be the one you assumed.

Three caveats, because the table is tidier than the data

USDT and USDC are tokens, not chains. They appear as their own rows because that is how OFAC publishes them, and the underlying addresses live on Ethereum and Tron. So the true Ethereum-and-Tron footprint is larger than the 233 and 404 rows suggest, and the BTC share correspondingly smaller. We report the list as published rather than silently re-bucketing it, because a re-bucketed count is one nobody can reconcile against Treasury's own file.

Two addresses carry no entity name. One on USDC, one on BSC. That is a parsing gap on our side or a sparse record on Treasury's; we have not yet determined which, and 2 of 1,979 does not change any conclusion above.

Address counts are not exposure. A chain with more designated addresses is not automatically more risk-bearing. Volume, dormancy and the age of each listing all matter, and none of them is in this table.

How to check this

The SDN list is public. Download SDN.XML from Treasury, extract the digital currency address features, and count them by currency code. You should get these numbers, and if you do not we would like to know.

There is an independent cross-check available too: the 0xB10C mirror publishes the same set parsed separately. We reconcile against it on every build, and we publish where the two disagree — our parse currently finds three addresses the mirror does not, and none the other way, with all three named individually so you can adjudicate it yourself.
